Off to Europe!

*Includes interview with Brenden Aaronson*

With the new year coming rather quickly, American and MLS star, Brenden Aaronson, makes way for Europe. After two years with the Philadelphia Union, 20 year old Aaronson looks to take his talents to Austria where he will be playing for Red Bull Salzburg.

The American kid earned himself a record 6 million dollar transfer (along with performance based bonuses), making him the first Union homegrown player to take their talents to Europe. The 6 million dollar transfer fee is also the highest ever fee in regards to MLS homegrown players. Brenden was born in Medford, NJ, and played with the Union Academy team before playing with the first team.

During Aaronson’s two seasons with the Philadelphia Union, he produced 7 goals, and 9 assists. He was also named a finalist for the 2020 Young Player of the Year award, and named in the 2020 MLS Best XI.

After producing some unforgettable highlights in the U.S., Aaronson will now show off his skills in Austria, and play amongst the best of the best in the Austrian Football Bundesliga, and on the highest of stages, in the Europa and Champions League.

-Interview-

When shopping for last minute gifts at Target on Christmas Eve, I turned around and saw Union superstar, Brenden Aaronson, standing in line next to me. After asking Brenden for a picture, I decided to ask him a couple of questions about his future, and what it will look like.

I first asked Brenden, “Are you nervous, or excited to head over to Austria?”

Brenden replied with, “I’m nervous yes, but at the same time I’m excited for what’s to come.”

I then asked him, “So, are you going to have to learn a new language, or have you already been learning one?”

“I’ve been learning German for a little bit now, and have to know it because that’s what they speak in Austria,” he answered.

As I didn’t want to take up too much of his time, I ended off by saying, “So you’re going to be playing Champions League football now, right? Champions League!”

He laughed while saying, “Yes, that is crazy. Hopefully all goes well and I’m able to play in the Champions League.”

After exchanging some final words, Brenden and I were both off to our families for the rest of the holiday, as we wished each other a merry Christmas, and a happy new year.
